Ahead of the 2023 UEFA Champions League final, to be played on 10 June in Istanbul, UEFA has announced, in close cooperation with the Turkish Football Federation (TFF), a series of fundraising activities , along with logistical and moral support, to help those affected by the earthquakes that shook Turkey and Syria last February. This action follows an initial donation of €200,000 from UEFA and its partner, the UEFA Foundation for Children, for the vast humanitarian operation to assist victims through a dedicated specifically to earthquakes. UEFA’s member associations also contributed by adding €900,000 in donations.

Support and fundraising activities planned on the sidelines of the final:

• This year, fans and visitors attending the UEFA Champions League final in Istanbul will be encouraged to ‘tap-to-donate’ using terminals provided by Mastercard, which will be placed the UEFA Champions Festival, the Atatürk Olympic Stadium and the fan zones. The amount of these donations will be donated to a joint project of the UEFA Foundation for Children and Mastercard in Turkey.

• During a free concert, the artists will invite the public to ‘tap-to-donate’ on Sunday 11 June at the UEFA Champions Festival, which will take place in Yenikapı Etkinlik Alanı. Leading local artist Ferman Akgül and Can Şengün Orchestra & Friends will host some of Turkey’s greatest musicians on the main stage, starting at 7:00 p.m. No ticket will be necessary to enter the festival grounds and attend the concert.

• In addition to tap-to-donate terminals, a QR code will also allow the public to make donations.

• As part of the long-term work carried out by the UEFA Foundation for Children to support those affected by the earthquakes, some affected children will accompany the players – as part of the Mastercard activation – and the referee team on the field in the final. The UEFA Foundation for Children will offer two groups of children from the disaster area the opportunity to attend the official training sessions of the two finalist teams, Manchester City FC and FC Internazionale Milano, the day before the match at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium.

• As Turkish law does not allow spectators to enter the stadiums with coins, any coins confiscated before entering the stadium for the final will go to the fund dedicated to the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

Donations will be distributed through the UEFA Foundation for Children, in close collaboration with the TFF, to various partners who are actively helping affected communities. These partners provide psychological support to children through football-related activities and contribute to the rehabilitation of children who have suffered serious injuries during the earthquakes.
