2023 Team USA World Cup Roster: Adding Brandon Ingram and Jaren Jackson Jr. Strengthens Team for International Competitions

While we already knew some names of the future Team USA for the 2023 World Cup, Brandon Ingram and Jaren Jackson Jr. join the party to strengthen the wings and the interior sector. Beautiful babies who remind us that basketball is an American sport… Who mentioned the D team?

Who says end of the NBA season, often says start of international competitions. And who says start of international competitions, says construction of roster for the different nations. Some countries do not even ask themselves the question of who will come or not, so the possibilities are limited to build a team who does not have the Pro B level competitive. But for the United States, it is slightly different. A fair for everything from Stephen Curry to… Kemba Walker. Enough to build something not too bad considering the number of profiles that separate the first from the second.

If we count the players already interested in the adventure, we already have a lot of names in the field. On the backcourt we find Anthony Edwards, Tyrese Haliburton, Jalen Brunson or even Austin Reaves. Let’s just say that’s not too bad for a rescue team, huh. Steve Kerr – the coach of Team USA – will have something to tinker with 2, 3 cool things.

After on the frontcourt, it lacked a bit of barbaque lately. Several players had already signed like Mikal Bridges, Bobby Portis and potentially Draymond Green but hey, there’s enough to flesh it all out. Suddenly Steve Kerr and Grant Hill – the executive director of Team USA – began to recruit not too yucky guys since Brandon Ingram and Jaren Jackson Jr. confirmed to join the roster. An All-Star and the reigning DPOY, just that.

It’s clear that the usual flashy names aren’t responding to Team USA this summer. Now, we are gradually approaching a generational shift within the American national team. If some selected players can barely drink alcohol in the United States, it does not mean that they will be the future of the NBA and therefore of the national team. Although the World Cup is not the most prestigious international competition, the 2024 Olympics are coming next year and this World Cup remains a good way to prepare for them by starting now a dynamic and a recruitment campaign, to build loyalty new players over the next few years.

Not too complicated for Team USA to build an elite roster, even if the players are still a bit young. The challenge of this World Cup remains to capitalize on the next few years for Team USA, but it is also an opportunity for some players to show themselves on the big stage by appearing among the greats (hello Austin Reaves). In any case, we are not worried regarding them!
