Dubai: ICC has released the shortlist for the award for the best Twenty20 players and emerging players in 2023. India’s Suryakumar Yadav has made it to the list of the best men’s T20 players of last year. Yaswasi Jaiswal is shortlisted for Male Emerging Star. Meanwhile, among women, Indian players also failed to make it to the final lists.
Suryakumar Yadav is looking forward to being named the Men’s T20 Player of the Year for the second year in a row. Surya, who reached the top rank in Twenty20 in November 2022, still hasn’t given up that position to anyone else. In 2023, Surya scored 733 runs from 17 innings at an average of 48.86 with two centuries and five half-centuries, while Surya’s batting strike rate is 155.95. Other players competing with Suryakumar are Zimbabwe’s Sikander Raza, New Zealand’s Mark Chapman and Uganda’s Alpesh Ramjani.
Interestingly, India’s Yaswasi Jaiswal found a place in the shortlist for male emerging star. Last year Yaswasi scored 266 runs with a century in 2 Tests and 430 runs with a century in 15 T20Is. Other players on the list are New Zealand’s Rachin Ravindra, South Africa’s Geraldo Koitsea and Sri Lanka’s Dilshan Madhushanka.
Sri Lanka’s battle for the title of the best women’s Twenty20 player has been cut, with Australia’s Ellis Perry, West Indies’ Hayley Mathews and England’s Sophie Ecclestone in a tight race. Australia’s Phoebe Lichfield, England’s Lauren Bell, Scotland’s Darcy Carter and Bangladesh’s Marufa Akhtar have been shortlisted for the Emerging Female Player.
