Let’s go for the 2023 energy check, which will be sent to 5.8 million low-income households from this Friday, April 21. He must help them pay their electricity and gas bills. What are the conditions to benefit from it? And what steps will you need to take? The answers.
Who will it be sent to?
The check will be sent automatically by mail to the 20% of the poorest households. Those whose reference tax income “per consumption unit” was less than 11,000 euros in 2021. “The tax administration draws up the list of beneficiaries each year according to the reference tax income (RFR, Ed) of the household and of the composition of the household determined in consumption unit (UC, Editor’s note)”, we explain to the Ministry of the Economy.
The value of the consumption units making up the household is calculated as follows: the first person in the household counts for 1 consumption unit, the second for 0.5 consumption units and the third and following for 0.3 for consumption units.
How much will it be?
The check, which is nominative, that is to say that the name of the beneficiary is indicated on the check, will be included this year in a range between 48 euros and 277 euros per year. Its validity of use runs over one year, that is to say until March 31, 2024.
This energy check complements the one sent at the end of the year, on an exceptional basis, the amount of which varied from €100 to €200, sent automatically to 12 million households.
What are the steps to take?
None. If you are eligible, you don’t have to do anything. You will automatically receive your energy check by post, to the last address given to the tax authorities. You can test your eligibility using the simulator available on the chequeenergie.gouv.fr website.
If you believe you are eligible for the 2023 energy check and you have not received your check, you can enter the dedicated platform by going to https://www.chequeenergie.gouv.fr/beneficiaire/faq.
As a reminder, two other checks can still be requested: the fuel oil check until April 30, 2023 and the wood check until May 31, 2023.
