For the 2023 model year, DS Automobiles has upgraded its DS 9 luxury sedan. Two of the most important new features are the instrument cluster with a 12.3-inch display (31.2 centimeters) and the voice-controlled DS Iris multimedia system, which has more convenience functions. An additional standard equipment line Opéra and the limited Collection Esprit de Voyage give the luxury model series of the Parisian premium brand more exclusivity.
The new DS 9 only comes with a plug-in hybrid engine with an output of 183 kW (250 hp) or 265 kW (360 hp). The latter has two electric motors, one of which has an output of 83 kW (113 hp) on the rear axle, enabling all-wheel drive. In both models, the battery capacity has been increased from 11.9 to 15.6 kWh. According to the standard, the all-wheel drive model should cover a purely electric range of 65 kilometers in combined mode, with the front-wheel drive with a smaller engine it should be up to 75 kilometers. The standard on-board charger processes charging current of up to 7.4 kW. If the battery is empty, it takes two hours and 23 minutes to fully charge.
New on board the DS 9 in model year 2023 is the DS Iris multimedia system with a customizable user interface and voice recognition. The high-resolution 12-inch touchscreen shows a smartphone-like graphic with widgets, which allows access to the navigation system, air conditioning, digital audio sources and information regarding the current journey at the touch of a button. A 360-degree vision system provides an all-round view of the vehicle. The multimedia system can be networked wirelessly with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, alternatively there are two USB-C ports.
The online connected navigation system of the new DS 9 selects the best route taking into account the current traffic situation, indicates danger zones and even provides information regarding weather forecasts, prices at petrol stations and public parking lots and locations of charging stations. For the streets in many large cities, the multifunction system also shows the chances of finding a parking space along the way. Updates are done automatically over-the-air.
In addition to the variants Performance Line+ and Rivoli+, a third equipment line Opéra is also available for the new model year. The technology equipment of the new top model includes, among other things, a camera-controlled chassis and advanced driver assistance system for partially autonomous driving level 2, a drowsiness assistant and a night vision system. Heated, cooled and ventilated massage seats in the front and rear as well as a powerful audio system ensure exclusive comfort on board. The front passenger seat can also be moved forward electrically from the rear, which underlines the suitability of the DS 9 as a chauffeur-driven limousine.
The ambience in the DS 9 Esprit de Voyage is even more extraordinary. The name corresponds to the German term Reiselust and stands for the French tradition of elegant travel and combines stylistic sophistication with engineering. The interior is characterized by light and bright colors, the seats are upholstered in pearl gray nappa leather, finished in a watch strap design. The center console, dashboard and door panels are also clad in pearl-grey nappa leather, and the headliner is made entirely of pebble-grey Alcantara. Fine materials also characterize the steering wheel covered in black grained leather, the upper side of the dashboard, which is also covered, and the rear shelf lined with black Alcantara. (awm)
