When the Christmas period arrives, 2.3 million households will benefit, like every year, from a Christmas bonus to help them finance the holidays. Here’s everything you need to know regarding the 2023 payment campaign.
A bonus created in 1998 by the Jospin government. For this year 2023, certain beneficiaries of allowances from CAF, MSA and Pôle emploi will once once more benefit from a Christmas bonus.
How much is the Christmas bonus?
The Christmas bonus has had the same amount since its creation in 1998 since it corresponds to the conversion into euros of the sum of 1,000 francs paid at the time, or 152.45 euros.
However, the latter changes depending on the number of children and the marital status of the beneficiary.
Thus, a single person without children will obtain a basic Christmas bonus. If she is in a relationship, the latter will reach 228.67 euros.
For a single person with a child the amount paid will be the same as for a couple without one. It increases to 274.41 euros for couples with one child.
This grid fits up to four children. So for the single beneficiary in this situation the premium will be 396.37 euros and for the couple 442.10 euros.
Beyond four children, a sum of 60.98 euros will be added.
Who can claim it?
The Christmas bonus is paid to around 2.3 million French households. It is paid to those who received one of the targeted social benefits during the months of November or December.
There are four of these services. The monthly flat-rate return to work bonus, the retirement equivalent allowance – it no longer exists since 2011 but is still received by those entitled to it at the time, the specific solidarity allowance (ASS) and the income of active solidarity (RSA).
For the RSA, a condition is added. Household resources must not exceed the amount of the basic RSA affiliated to the family composition.
When will it be paid?
The Christmas bonus has not yet been officially renewed by the government but its payment generally occurs around December 15.
Its payment is automatic and is carried out by CAF, MSA and Pôle emploi.
