AUGUSTA, Ga. — Halfway through the 2022 Masters, it’s becoming increasingly clear that this tournament is shaping up to potentially be a great one. And while treacherous conditions and gusty winds have not allowed for many low scores thus far, the top of the leaderboard as we head into Moving Day on Saturday is nonetheless already giving us big names.
None quite as big than the World No. 1 in Scottie Scheffler, who on Friday tied the low round of the week with a 5-under 67 to take control of the tournament. Scheffler’s big day propelled him to a five-stroke lead — tied for the largest in Masters history through 36 holes — but it sure doesn’t feel like it’s a wrap at Augusta NATIONAL. In the hunt includes a number of major champions like Dustin Johnson, Collin Morikawa, Hideki Matsuyama and others who are plenty capable of chasing down the big lead.
Will Scheffler finish it off from here and capture his first major championship with a green jacket? That’s the big question, and with so many stars lurking in the shadows it makes for a compelling weekend of competition at one of the sport’s best and most prominent venues.
