2022 F1 Brazilian Grand Prix Final: British 1-2 finish since 2010[F1-Gate.com]

The 2022 F1 Brazilian GP was a hot race that brought the heat of the previous day’s sprint as it was.

The race was won by Mercedes’ George Russell. It was his coveted maiden F1 victory in his 81st race and the first victory of the season for the Mercedes F1 team. Interlagos provided attractive numbers.

• George Russell is the 113th race winner in F1 history and the 20th British winner.

● This is the first time that God Save the King has been played for drivers and constructors in the F1 World Championship.

● George Russell made his first Grand Prix weekend appearance as a Force India FP1 driver at the 2017 F1 Brazilian Grand Prix.

● Mercedes F1 had not achieved a one-two finish for over two years. The last was at Imola 2020, when Lewis Hamilton defeated Valtteri Bottas.

● Mercedes took its first win of 2022 after 15 podiums this season.

• The last British driver to achieve a 1-2 finish since the 2010 F1 Canadian Grand Prix, when Lewis Hamilton beat McLaren teammate Jenson Button.

• Lewis Hamilton finished second in three races in a row, his fifth finish of the season, but is yet to score a win in 2022.

● Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz will take his ninth podium in 2022. His first podium came at Interlagos in 2019 when he moved up to third after the race.

• Team-mate Charles Leclerc finished in 4th place and is battling Red Bull’s Sergio Perez for second place in the world championship with 290 points.

● Fernando Alonso finished fifth, giving Alpine its third best result of the season in 2022. Alonso started from 17th on the grid.

• Max Verstappen surrenders Perez to Leclerc as second in the drivers’ standings when he overtakes his team-mate in the closing stages of the race to finish sixth.

● 6th is Verstappen’s worst finish at Interlagos since joining Red Bull Racing in 2016.

• Sergio Pérez’s 7th place finish tied him on 290 points in the final, where he was ahead of Leclerc in the sprint.

● Sergio Perez was running in 3rd place with 9 laps to go.

● Alpine’s Esteban Ocon finished 8th for two consecutive races and finished in the points for the second year in a row at Interlagos.

● McLaren recorded its first double DNF since Jenson Button’s last F1 race, the 2017 F1 Monaco GP.

• It’s been a weekend of ups and downs for Haas F1 Team and Kevin Magnussen. Haas took pole position and retired on the first lap of the Grand Prix.

● Kevin Magnussen retired with 0 laps for the second time in his career, colliding with McLaren and Daniel Ricciardo (2017 and 2022) respectively.
