2022 EUGENE WORLDS – Jackson, Thompson-Herah and Fraser-Pryce all in control in the 200m heats

After their hat-trick on the straight, the Jamaicans were out on Tuesday in the 200m at the Eugene Worlds. From the first series, Shericka Jackson made the difference from the start of her race. Winning her series in 22″33, she outsmarted the competition with her ease, which allowed her to decelerate very early in the race, while maintaining a lead of more than two tenths over the Ecuadorian Gabriela Anahi Suarez (22″56).

Starting in lane number 8, Elaine Thompson-Herarh was overtaken by the Namibian Beatrice Masilingi (22″27, PB), who signed her personal best over the distance. Exiting at the head of the turn, the double Olympic champion of the 100m and 200m saw his opponent come back in the last 80 meters without consequence for the qualification in the semi-finals but the impression left is not that of his compatriot Shericka Jackson.

As for the new five-time world champion in the 100m, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, the Jamaican did not seem to be working too hard. Exiting at the head of the turn, “Pocket Rocket” controlled in the second part of the race to finally take second place in his series, behind the astonishing Aminatou Seyni, who broke his personal best and the Niger record in 21 “98 .

Starting in the 4th series, the reigning world champion Dina Asher-Smith (22″56) was quite easily beaten by the American Tamara Clark (22″27) but secured her place in the semi-finals. Maybe her 100m the day before, where she took 4th place, still has a little in her legs.

Clark’s compatriot, Abby Steiner (22″26) won her series ahead of the Swiss Mujinga Kambundji (22″34) with whom she fought until crossing the finish line.
