2022, a record year for inflation in Belgium

Other product groups also experienced historically high values in 2002. For food products, inflation has increased to an average of 8.3% in 2022. Never before has food inflation been so high. The consequence of the rise in agricultural commodity prices since August 2020, then reinforced, in 2022, by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Inflation for non-energy industrial goods and services was also historically high in 2022, rising to 4.2% and 3.8% respectively. Several sectors such as hotels, tourism and hairdressing increased their prices. In addition, energy costs and labor costs, which account for a large share of total costs in the service sectors, have also increased. As for industrial goods, not only have supply chains continued to be disrupted, but demand has remained high.

But unlike energy, inflation for food, services and industrial goods also continued to rise in the final months of 2022.
