Even if Camilla Balieva (16, Russian Olympic Committee), who was exposed to doping violations, wins a medal, it is not expected that she will be on the podium.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced on the 14th that “even if Balieva finished third in the figure skating women’s singles at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, there will be no medal ceremony.”
The IOC’s decision came following the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) approved Balieva’s doping and allowed her to compete in the women’s singles event. This is interpreted to mean that Baliyeva will not be recognized as her medalist until her doping violation case is closed.
Previously, the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) sanctioned Balieva, who was found to contain a prohibited substance in a urine sample, and withdrew it. The IOC, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), and the International Skating Union (ISU) applied for an objection, but CAS rejected it on the same day.
As a result, Balieva will be able to compete in the figure skating women’s singles event to be held on the 15th. However, even if she wins a medal, there will be no official awards ceremony to give medals, let alone a simple awards ceremony where she gives out bouquets of flowers.
