In Canada, 99,965 vehicles are affected by the recall.
The manufacturer’s concern concerns the occupant classification system (OCS) found in the front passenger seat, and which a manufacturing fault might have compromised.
A short circuit would thus harm the sensitivity of the seat, which would no longer be able to correctly classify the weight of the occupant and would not trigger the deployment of the airbag as expected during certain collisions.
Here is the list of vehicles affected.
Toyota :
Avalon, Avalon Hybrid: 2020 – 2021
Camry, Camry Hybrid: 2020 – 2022
Corolla: 2020 – 2021
Highlander, Highlander Hybrid: 2020 – 2021
RAV4, RAV4 Hybrid: 2020 – 2021
Sienna Hybrid: 2021
Lexus:
ES250: 2021
ES300H: 2020 – 2022
ES350: 2020 – 2021
RX350: 2020 – 2021
RX450h: 2020 – 2021
For all affected vehicles, Toyota and Lexus dealers will inspect the OCS sensors and, if necessary, replace them at no cost to owners, Toyota assured.
Toyota will notify affected owners of this issue by mid-February 2024.
