In its decision, the jury opposed the death penalty for the shooter. This would have required a unanimous decision. According to the judge, the final sentence will be formally announced on November 1st.

The now 24-year-old perpetrator pleaded guilty to 17 counts of murder and attempted murder last October. On February 14, 2018, he shot 14 teenagers and three adults in Parkland with a legally purchased gun and injured others. After the crime, surviving students had started protests once morest gun violence and for stricter gun laws in the USA, which became a nationwide movement.
