2015 MacBook Air/Pro become classic models

Apple today updated the your (american) product page classic/obsolete with some additions from new Macs.

This time, they entered the list of classics (vintage) five MacBook Air/Pro models.

Are they:

MacBook Air (11-inch, Early 2015)
MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, 4 TBT3)
MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017)
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)

The MacBooks Air were launched in March 2015, but the 11″ model was discontinued in October 2016 and the 13″ model in June 2017. Both are, therefore, even belatedly joining this list.

The 13″ MacBook Pro was launched in June 2017, in two versions: one with two and the other with four Thunderbolt 3 ports. The four-port model, as well as the 15″ MacBook Pro, were discontinued in July 2018. The 13″ two-door version has been on sale for longer, so it hasn’t made the list yet.

Finally, the oldest machine in this batch (the 15″ MBP Retina) was released in May 2015, but it lived as Highlander and was only discontinued in July 2018.

In practice, what this means is that, in much of the world, Apple is no longer obliged to offer replacement parts or repairs (paid) for products, considered “obsolete”. Only in two parts of the world, Turkey and the state of California, are the products considered “classic” and still have parts and support offered for two more years, as these locations require that period to be seven years following the end of the production.
