200 tourists trapped in Kamrat Valley rescued – Pakistan

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority says that two hundred tourists trapped in Kamrat valley of Upper Dir district have been rescued safely.

Speaking to the official news agency “Associated Press of Pakistan” (APP), the spokesman of the authority said that the rescued tourists from Dujungla, Kala Chashma and the waterfall have been taken to the Grand Palace Hotel from where they have been shifted to Kalam. will be done

The spokesperson said that food and other services are being provided to all the rescued tourists.

He further said that the police and the district administration are fully cooperating in the rescue operation.

The spokesman said that the tourists were stranded in Kamrat after the roads were closed due to heavy rains.

It should be noted that the tourists have been rescued a day after 13 members of the same family died due to the roof collapse due to heavy rains in Upper Dir Tehsil Maidan.

Monsoon season in Pakistan is from July to August and during this period it usually rains about 255 mm per month.

In 2022, monsoon rains caused widespread damage across the country, with more than 75,000 houses destroyed and 130,000 partially damaged, according to data from the government and international aid agencies.

A Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) report released on August 28 shows that 74 people have been killed and 128 injured from July to August 28 due to the current monsoon spell in KP.

The report also said that 906 houses were damaged due to rain-related incidents in the last two months.

According to KPPDMA, 24 people were killed and 17 injured as a result of heavy rains in the province from July 29 to August 1.

On August 17, a local government representative was swept away in a stream in Swabi, and a minor boy was killed in a wall collapse in Bannu.
