In 2004 “our” Alexander Payne directed a film-hymn to friendship, which was to remain in the consciousness of cinephiles as the quintessential cinematic reference to wine, self-discovery and experience as self-realization. Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor were awarded the Academy Award for Adapted Screenplay in 2005 (Sideways received 5 nominations in total), as the film is based on the novel by Rex Pickett. This is Payne’s first collaboration with Paul Giamatti, with whom they also worked together on last year’s hit “Children of Winter.” The influence of “Slant” is not only regarding the cinema, since through the dialogue and the tasting process, even the production of the different varieties of wine in California was influenced!
The screening is organized by the Municipality of Aegialia and the International Short Film Festival of Aegian “Theodore Angelopoulos” in collaboration with the Wine Quality Network which has declared Alexander Payne “Ambassador of the Wines of Aegialia” since 2016. The event is supported by Philoprogressive Educational Association of Paraskevi Aegialia.
