Even if the characteristic of artists is to move forward, with this idea that the best is yet to come, it is sometimes useful to look in the rearview mirror, even if only for a fraction of a second. As the seventh album from the Lausanne group Hemlock Smith is released this week, we cannot help but notice that it seals a recording career that began two decades ago – the founder A Secret Life was released in 2002. “It’s pretty crazy, because my idea then was simply to make a record to make a childhood dream come true. I never imagined that there would be even a second… But following some encouraging reviews and meetings, we said to ourselves that we might possibly continue.”
