Participation initiative by the COMÚN Foundation, the city of Schrems, companies and private individuals ensures supra-regional support for the Hochmoor Schrems Nature Park

Vienna (OTS) A special initiative that serves as a model for other projects to protect the environment and climate is celebrating its successful establishment. With your “Hochmoor support group“The Federal Foundation COMÚN, together with the city of Schrems, a number of companies from all over Austria and many private individuals, ensured that the Hochmoor Schrems Nature Park, which is so important for biodiversity and climate protection, is financially significantly strengthened.

In less than 3 months, over 10,000 euros were collected, with companies and people from all over Austria taking part. The city of Schrems will now double this amount by resolution of the local council, which will mean that the nature park will have over 20 percent more basic budget available in 2024. The “support group“After the initial success, it will be continued in 2024.

Role model for protecting the climate and biodiversity

The special thing regarding the “Förderkreis Hochmoor Schrems” is that politics, business and civil society work together to promote biodiversity and climate protection in a very specific project. The success shows us that there is enormous potential lying dormant here, just waiting to be activated – no matter where in Austria. We have to work together to protect the climate and speciessaid initiator & COMÚN board member Sebastian Bohrn Mena.

Author and environmentalist Matthias Schickhofer, member of the advisory board of the COMÚN Foundation, sees a model with exemplary character being realized: The climate and ecosystem crisis requires rapid and cooperative action – and much more funding is needed for ecosystem conservation and restoration. The Hochmoor Schrems support group shows how this can work. We certainly need more initiatives like this in the future.“

For climate & biodiversity: Support group acts on a non-partisan and supra-regional basis

The “Hochmoor Schrems support group“through non-partisan cooperation in the city of Schrems, starting with Mayor Peter Müller (SPÖ), through city councilor David Süß (ÖVP) and environmental councilor Ferdinand Kammerer (Greens). Together, the parliamentary groups will increase the subsidy to the UnterWasserReich education center from the previous 95,000 euros per year to 105,000 euros in the future.

Key supporters of the collection were 8 pioneering companies from all over Austria. In the first round of the “Förderkreis” these were the Backwelt Pilz, Herka Frottier & TVG Gmünd, Waldviertler Werkstätten and the Schremser Brewery from the region. There were also the Upper Austrian company Gourmetfein, the Woerle company from Salzburg and the Lower Austrian company Admiral.
