Vienna (OTS) As soon as the sun comes out, it’s back to paddling and paddling on Vienna’s water playgrounds. There are 12 water playgrounds and 119 playgrounds with water play options for children of all ages to discover in Vienna free of charge.

With the beginning of the new season, 2 new water playgrounds were opened in Floridsdorfer Aupark and in Stadtpark Atzgersdorf. Cooling off, fun and adventure is guaranteed this summer.

The 2 largest water playgrounds in Vienna are on the Danube Island and at the water tower in Favoriten, both with childcare. Children can experience the element of water in many different forms and experiment with it. Not only fun in the water, but also enough quiet areas to relax are guaranteed.

Weil Children are often particularly affected by heat waves, so there is a need for places where they can find protection from the heat. Vienna’s parks are perfect for this, as they not only cool off kids on hot summer days thanks to the combination of shady trees, water features and games. There are also twelve water playgrounds, which are of course particularly popular with children. All in all, there are lots of parks and playgrounds in Vienna where children and adults can find protection from the intense heat, but also plenty of space to do sports, play or simply relax,” says City Councilor Jürgen Czernohorszky.

New opening: water playground in Floridsdorf Aupark

On 100 m2, various water play elements invite you to an exciting day outdoors with water fun. For example, there is a spray column in the Floridsdorfer Aupark, from the upper end of which a gush of water emerges. Pressure forms a water screen under which children can splash regarding as they please. Six floor jets provide additional refreshment. The so-called “floor kites” are also a special feature: water jets arranged in a curve in the floor “spew” water, which is distributed in all directions by a fan nozzle. If you hold one of the water nozzles closed, the entire spray pattern changes. Three so-called “spray rings” round off the colorful range of water play equipment: the 2 meter high arches are equipped with spray valves, from which spray rain constantly escapes.

“I am very pleased that the Floridsdorfer Aupark can be used even better by cooling water features – especially during the hot months! With the new water playground, an exuberant range of leisure activities for families and children is being created,” says district manager Georg Papai, full of anticipation for the warm season.

A shaded wooden pergola with seating offers enough space for extensive picnics. The entire area of the water playground has been equipped with a specially coated anti-slip surface. In order to use the precious resource of water sparingly, the play equipment is linked to a so-called “hand activator” that triggers it when required. A specially installed temperature sensor ensures that the water play equipment is activated from 25 degrees Celsius. The new construction of the water playground in the Floridsdorfer Aupark is part of the support program “Livable Climate Model City” of the City of Vienna. With this program, the City of Vienna supports projects in the districts with, among other things, cooling measures that ensure a better quality of life. Up to 2025, 20 million euros per year will be available for measures to adapt to climate change.

New opening: water playground in the Atzgersdorf city park

A water playground was built in the new Atzgersdorf city park for paddling and paddling. The approximately 750 m2 area includes various water play options, so water can be playfully dammed and diverted with the help of wedges. A small stream flows into a large sand-mud zone. Tree trunks and wooden decks serve as seating in the sun. If the watercourse seems too short, there is direct access to the Liesingbach behind the playground, accessible via a few steps.

“The water playground is definitely the big highlight of our new Atzgersdorf city park. I am pleased that we were able to fulfill a great wish of many Liesingen residents with the implementation of this attraction.” emphasizes District Manager Gerald Bischof.

In addition to more than 300 shady trees, wave loungers on a large meadow area invite you to linger. There are also hammocks between the trees and many table-bench combinations that can be used to relax. There is a shower at the playgrounds so that the sand stays in the facility and does not end up in its infancy.

Pure fun in the water at the Wasserturm water playground

The 15,000 square meter Wasserturm water playground includes the largest play area. An adventure trail recreates the route taken by drinking water from the Alps to the city. Waterfalls, streams and a lake convey a natural water experience. The lake can be ingeniously crossed with cable ferries. On the banks, small bays, so-called “gutter zones”, also offer the kids the opportunity to play, romp and splash to their hearts’ content. A special highlight is the six meter high water tower, which was modeled on the original: Here you can slide and climb extensively. So that the way home can be freed from mud and sand, there is a “children’s car wash”, cloakrooms and free toilets.

Cable ferry and suspension bridge at the Donauinsel water playground

At the huge water playground on the Danube Island, water wheels, pumps and waterfalls encourage extensive experimentation and show surprising water phenomena. Information cubes explain the role that liquid gold played in human development. Non-swimmers are welcome on the 5,000 m2 area because the water holes are so shallow that the voyage of discovery is not dangerous. Brave captains look forward to a suspension bridge and a cable ferry to cross the pond. There is even a fenced-off children’s area for toddlers, where they can splash around safely with age-appropriate water toys in a giant sandpit, protected by a large awning. After exploring, explorers can take a break in the quiet zone.
