2 new Lumix S lenses unveiled in China?

At an event in China, Panasonic lifted the veil on its new roadmap for its L-mount lenses. Already counting 14 objectives, we discover that the Japanese manufacturer foresees the imminent arrival of a wide-aperture transstandard zoom as well as a super télézoom.

While Panasonic has just unveiled a collaboration with DJI on its LiDAR technology used on its gimbals at a conference in China, the manufacturer seems to have taken the opportunity to unveil its new optical roadmap.

Information, available at the moment only in China and relayed by the media Asobinetyet seems to have been confirmed by Panasonic with certain media like Petapixel.

This new roadmap follows on from the two new lenses announced in development last January: a macro lens and a long-range zoom.

Two new L-mount zoom lenses for 2023-2024?

On this new roadmap, we note the presence of a wide-aperture standard zoom, whose focal range might be between 30 and 70 mm. This lens, which is added to the Lumix S 24-70mm f/2.8, must however offer something special. What remains to be seen? An f/2-2.8 aperture like what Tamron and Samyang offer, or even f/2 like Canon? Or even a constant aperture version of the 20-60mm zoom kit offered by Panasonic? The blur still remains.

On the other side of the focal length spectrum, a new very long-range telephoto zoom should be presented, with a focal range varying between 100 mm and 500 mm. This lens will complete Panasonic’s non-existent optical range beyond 300 mm (without having to resort to teleconverters on the S 70-300 mm zooms) and thus offer an alternative to the Sigma 150-600 mm f/5-6,3 available in L mount, and recommended by Panasonic until now for wildlife photographers looking for very long focal lengths.

If the information has not yet confirmed in Europe, it shouldn’t take long, as manufacturers generally don’t segment their roadmaps between continents. We can only imagine that Panasonic took advantage of its event with DJI to make this announcement.

Wait and see SO.
