Sai Wan Ho shooting

Zhou Pak-kwan, a middle school student who was shot in the Sai Wan Ho shooting case, known as “Xiongzaibing”, and another male student, Beard Kian, were convicted in the District Court yesterday of obstructing office work and attempting to snatch a gun. Escape from legal custody is also a crime. The two were revoked from bail and returned immediately, pending the request for a background report. The case was adjourned to October 10 for intercession and sentencing.

Judge Xie Chen Zhizhi pointed out in the ruling that someone at the crime scene hated the police, including shouting “If there are dogs, don’t let the police officers go.” The police officers were attacked by two defendants and others. , Zhou Baijun continued to approach the police officer and extended his hand; the police officer felt that the choice of shooting was reasonable for personal safety, rather than using excessive force.

As for the defense’s claim that the defendant wanted to snatch the man with the neck restrained rather than the gun, the judge pointed out that the police officers carried out the law normally on that day and did not agree that Zhou Baijun just wanted to use his hand to remove the police gun; Armed with guns, it was ruled that they wanted to grab the gun.

The incident occurred on November 11, 2019 at the intersection of Shing On Street, Sai Wan Ho, at the time of the anti-amendment protests. Before entering court yesterday, Zhou posted that he had planned and prepared for the worst, and thanked those who had supported and cared for him. Chen Rijun, bishop emeritus of the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong, also attended the courtroom.
