Two adults and three minors accused of having links to the Barrio 18 gang and a case of kidnapping were arrested and remanded, respectively, during an operation by detectives of the National Civil Police (PNC), police sources reported on Tuesday, July 30.
The alleged gang members were located in a sector of the La Florida neighborhood, in zone 19 of Guatemala City, during an operation against criminal acts in the sector.
According to the PNC, detectives from the Criminal Investigation Division (DEIC) and prosecutors from the Public Ministry (MP) carried out a search of a property in said neighborhood, neutralized the two adults and sent the three minors away.
According to authorities, all of them are suspected members of the Mara 18 gang, who have been seized a pistol.
Authorities said the operation is a follow-up to the investigation of criminal acts, such as kidnapping.
For its part, the MP explained that the Municipal Prosecutor’s Office of Mixco, with the accompaniment of PNC agents, carried out the search of a property in the La Florida neighborhood, zone 19, “as part of the investigation into the kidnapping or abduction of a woman.”
The identity of the two adults has not yet been released.
