A castle built in the southwest of France in the 19th century is currently for sale in more than 5,000 spare parts for the modest sum of 10.23 million Canadian dollars, reports the Wall Street Journal.

Estoua Castle, whose construction was completed in 1890 in Gabarret, has never been inhabited. A hundred years later, the building was purchased by the French master stonemason Claude Lacoste, who had it dismantled by hand into several thousand pieces.

Mr. Lacoste then saw several reconstruction projects aborted, including the transformation of the castle into a golf lodge or even a hotel complex in California.

In 2020, the dismantled building was sold to an American antique dealer who lives in Paris for the sum of 3.05 million Canadian dollars. She invested nearly $890,000 to add stones to expand and renovate the castle.

She in turn has just put it up for sale and hopes to obtain 7.5 million US dollars (10.23 million Canadian dollars) for the lot which includes 5,389 pieces.

Each stone was numbered to facilitate the reconstruction of the castle. Assembled, the building is 14 meters high and occupies an area of 1,300 square meters.

All the stones are currently stored in a warehouse near Bordeaux. The current owner of the lot estimates that around 40 containers will be needed to transport the dismantled castle and that it will take up to nine months to transport them to the United States and another seven months to rebuild the residence.

The sale price does not include the transport and reconstruction of the castle, which might jointly cost more than 5 million Canadian dollars, according to the owner of the building.
