“1976: Award-Winning Chilean Film about the Dictatorship Era, Directed by Manuela Martelli”

The movie 1976directed by the Chilean Manuela Martelli, won as “Best Ibero-American Fiction First Film” at the 2023 Platinum Awards.

The national film, in which the actors Aline Küppenheim, Nicolás Sepúlveda, Hugo Medina, Alejandro Goic, Carmen Gloria Martínez and Antonia Zegers work, premiered in May 2022 at the Cannes Film Festival.

In addition, it participated in the Goya Awards in the category of “Best Ibero-American Film”, where it was surpassed by the film Argentina, 1986.

The film, set during the Chilean dictatorship, stars Aline Küppenheim in the role of Carmen. The woman goes to the beach to supervise the repairs that she is doing to her house and, in that context, a priest asks her to take care of a young man from the left.

After winning the Platino Awards, the director Manuela Martelli pointed out that “It is a way to encourage Ibero-American cinema, so that we tell our stories and see our stories.”

Andrés Wood’s series also wins at Platinum Awards

The one who also received recognition was Andrés Wood, who is one of the directors of the Chilean-Colombian series News of a kidnapping.

The works swept and prevailed in four of the six categories to which it was nominated: best miniseries or teleseries; best series creator -for Wood and the Colombian Rodrigo García-; Best Leading Female Performance; and Best Supporting Female Performance.
