1,900 francs for a smartphone? Apple presents its new iPhone 14

Apple presented new smartphones on Wednesday. These devices are similarly priced to the previous two iPhone lines, despite rampant inflation and component shortages.

The tech giant hasn’t unveiled any fundamental changes to its handsets, apart from the disappearance of the SIM card compartment, replaced by its digital version. The new series of phones includes four models of the iPhone 14.

The basic model will be marketed from 929 francs and up to 1,289 francs. Larger, the iPhone 14 Plus will cost between 1,049 and 1,409 francs.

To get the Pro version of the new Apple smartphone, you will have to pay between 1,179 and 1,779 francs. The most expensive device in the range, the iPhone 14 Pro Max will be sold at prices between 1,299 and 1,899 francs. All these models will be available on the Swiss market from September 16. Only the iPhone 14 Plus will be marketed from October 7.

One of the main novelties of the iPhone 14 is the satellite connection. In case of insufficient network, it will be possible to send emergency messages to the emergency services.

A watch to go on the glaciers

The marketing event, which took place in person, mainly focused on the latest generation of connected watches, the Apple Watch Series 8 (from 429 francs), and a new entry-level model, the Apple Watch SE (from 269 francs).

Apple is, however, returning to high prices with a new watch designed specifically for extreme sports, from diving to hiking on glaciers, the Apple Watch Ultra. Marketed from 849 francs, its battery is supposed to be able to last more than two days – in case of optimized use – unlike the brand’s existing models which do not last a day.
