The 19-year-old was driving a car with Austrian license plates on the Croatian island. According to a report by the Croatian police, she drove out of a bend too fast. She lost control of the vehicle, crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with another Austrian’s car. The 19-year-old died at the scene of the accident.
The driver of the oncoming vehicle, also an Austrian citizen, was seriously injured in the accident and taken to a Croatian hospital.
The Austrian embassy in Croatia says that they are currently in contact with the family of the deceased, who are still on site. The bereaved are receiving advice and support in communicating with the Croatian authorities. “This is of course a tragic case. At the same time, however, we have fortunately had fewer accidents with fatalities or serious injuries this year than in the past two years,” says embassy counselor Götz Gerhard.
