Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the gun operator on the set of the movie “Rust” was sentenced today to 18 months in prison for the October 2021 death of cinematographer Halina Hutchins, by a gun wielded by actor Alec Baldwin.

Last month, Gutierrez-Reed, 27, was found guilty of manslaughter for accidentally putting a live bullet in Alec Baldwin’s gun, which the famous actor used to fire during a rehearsal, killing Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza.

Defense lawyer Jason Bowles had asked for a suspended sentence, which was rejected on the grounds of “lack of remorse”.

Prosecutor Carrie Morrissey recalled that the defendant had called jurors “stupid” and referred to “paid” court officials, while still blaming others for the murder in the shooting.

Alec Baldwin’s trial is set for July 10 following a jury in January indicted him on a charge of negligent homicide.
