The explosion happened in an apartment building. It was 1 p.m. when the facts occurred at number 35 General Pardiñas de Salamanca street (Madrid), reports El Pais. The explosion was impressive and powerful. At least 18 people were injured: one is in serious condition while four others were taken to hospital. Two workers are also still missing in the rubble.
The four-storey building was badly damaged. “There is also a lot of damage on the street,” report the emergency services, which indicate that several vehicles were affected.
For now, the origin of the explosion is not yet known. It might be a gas leak. Some neighbors reportedly smelled a strong odor before the explosion. “It was vibrating so much that I thought it was a bomb”, confides a resident to the Spanish newspaper. But the causes might also be work that was taking place in the building.
