REPORTAGE — On Sunday, August 11, Numerama had the opportunity to attend a pyrotechnic drone show at the Palace of Versailles. A meticulous organization, with 600 drones, for 15 minutes of show.

On July 14, 2024, during the great Eiffel Tower show, France discovered pyrotechnic drones. In the sky, 1,100 drones drew objects. Below them, a rain of fire, mixed with fireworks fired from the ground. An astonishing reinvention of light shows, which logically fascinated the French.

Behind these new kind of drone shows, there is Groupe F, one of the French specialists in night shows for over 30 years. Sunday August 11, on the occasion of the Great Night Waters From Versailles, Numerama was able to follow the behind the scenes of the preparation of a drone show:

600 drones and hours of preparation

In our report, we discovered the meticulous preparation work of the pyrotechnicians, who first position 600 drones on the ground, then equip them with a pyrotechnic module. Several hours later, they insert the batteries, check that everything works well on the computer and prepare the show, which is fully automated.
