MINISTER of Law and Human Rights (Menkumham) Yasonna H. Laoly said that on the 79th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia, the government gave general remission and reduction of general prison terms to 176,984 prisoners, consisting of 175,728 general prisoners and 1,256 juvenile prisoners.
According to Yasonna, this remission is not just a reduction in sentence, remission is a step to provide an opportunity for prisoners to be able to contribute to society again after serving their sentence.
“Remission is a form of state concern and humanism towards those who are serving their sentences. This is a manifestation of our commitment to rehabilitation, to recovery, and to new hope for all,” he said at the 79th Indonesian Independence Commemoration Ceremony at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Saturday (17/8).
As a state institution responsible for the implementation of law and human rights, said Yasonna, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights has a very strategic role.
“Not only as law enforcement officers, but also as the vanguard in maintaining the Law and Human Rights,” he said.
The Minister of Law and Human Rights said that in order to create an advanced and just Indonesia, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights must be ready to work with all parties to create a climate that encourages sustainable growth and development.
