Hong Kong: 35-year-old YouTuber Clarke Park is representative of the ordinary people of South Korea, who are suffering due to high food prices. Park got into the queue following knowing that he would get fried chicken at a 12 percent discount at a hypermarket chain called Homeplus. Around 50 people are in this queue. Clark Park responded to CNN that they are trying to buy chicken as soon as the supermarket opens.

Fried chicken is a favorite food of South Koreans. However, Clark Park testifies that this is not the case. Compared to last August, the price of fried chicken has increased by 11.4 percent.

British fish and chips have also gone up in price, not just fried chicken. Currently, a meal that includes fried chicken costs regarding $22 (Rs. 1750). Supermarkets sell chicken at low prices, but common people cannot afford it.

Rating agencies including Nomura had warned that Asian economies would be hit by price hikes. Countries such as Singapore, Hong Kong and the Philippines are all facing a crisis, Nomura said. Food prices have increased dramatically following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
