It is a comprehensive and pioneering plan of strategy and upgraded infrastructure and actions of the cultural stock co-financed by the NSRF 2021-2027 and in particular by the “ATTIKI” Program, which was presented yesterday at the new Museum of Modern Greek Culture in Monastiraki, the result of cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Attica Region. With a view to increasing visitorship and strengthening its spatial diffusion throughout the Attica Region, the Ministry of Culture mapped the main axes of planning for the protection, promotion and utilization of the monumental wealth of Attica.
The program was presented yesterday at the new Museum of Newer Greek Culture in Monastiraki, the result of cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Region of Attica
The Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni in her speech referred to the scientific data that support “the importance of culture not only as a comparative advantage of Greece, but also as a critical strategic factor for its economic and social cohesion and development” and pointed out that “the starting point of planning for us is a new vision for the overall effective management of the natural and cultural Attic landscape as a major tourist destination and development capital with specific strategic objectives”.
Afterwards, the minister referred to the utilization of the possibilities offered by the OHE model prepared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The planned interventions – as Ms. Mendoni said – in the framework of the OCHE “have a total budget that exceeds 170 million euros, of which more than 60 million are planned to be drawn from the Attica PEP 2021-2027 and the rest through the other Sectoral Programs”. It is pointed out that the projects to be financed by the NSRF 2021-2027 are added to those already planned and implemented by the services and agencies of the Ministry of Culture, with funding from the Recovery Fund.
For his part, the regional governor of Attica, Nikos Hardalias, emphasized that the Attica Region “is the only region in the country, which is currently applying the OHE tool in the field of Culture” and underlined that “we are preparing a holistic plan of projects and actions for the highlighting the cultural heritage”.

The four axes of the OCHE – as explained by Mrs. Mendoni – are the preservation and promotion of the cultural heritage of the Attic Landscape, the diffusion of visitors throughout the area of the PA, the improvement of the tourist product based on the organization of thematic cultural routes in Attica and the modernization and promotion of Attica’s cultural infrastructure and services. The OHE was presented by the head of the ESPA Staff Structure of the Ministry of Culture, Yannis Mylonas, who explained the vision of the tool.
