A fatal traffic accident occurred in Salzburg in the Hallenstein area on Friday evening. For reasons that are not yet known, a 17-year-old local car driver, who was traveling with three friends between the ages of 15 and 16 on the B178 federal road in the direction of Unken, left the roadway in a winding part of the road, as the police said announced on Saturday.
His vehicle skidded and rolled over several times before coming to rest between trees just above the Saalach. While the driver was trapped in the car with serious injuries, his passengers were able to free themselves from the wreckage despite their injuries. One drew the attention of following drivers on the main road to the emergency situation and thus set the rescue chain in motion.
The driver was taken to the Salzburg University Hospital by rescue helicopter, where he ultimately succumbed to his severe head injuries. The three injured passengers were taken to the accident hospital in Salzburg, the hospital in St. Johann in Tirol and Zell am See.
