1,628 companies are active in the textile sector in Morocco

According to the director general of AMITH, Fatima-Zohra Alaoui, the textile market in Morocco is “in full mutation”, in particular with the boom in e-commerce, a phenomenon accelerated, she said, by the crisis. of Covid-19.

“With 1,628 companies employing 189,000 people, the textile sector has a significant weight in the national industrial fabric”, she said, adding that this sector is full of major assets, in particular the geographical position of the Kingdom and recognized know-how with six reference sectors.

The sector, she continued, also offers compelling opportunities, including the rise of ethical and sustainable fashion, the carbon tax and innovation in the service of a 4.0 textile industry.

As for the ambitions of the sector, Ms. Alaoui said that the sector aims to achieve 40% market share on the domestic market, 60 billion dirhams (MMDH) for export, 60% production in co-contracting and finished product, and 20% of export turnover in the markets of North America and Northern Europe.
