“Vera”, “Eismayer” and “Corsage” win this year’s Austro Oscars, among others
Vienna (OTS) – Great success for ORF at this year’s Austro Oscars! At the presentation of the 13th Austrian Film Prize, seven productions co-financed within the framework of the film/television agreement were honored today, Thursday, June 15, 2023, with 16 coveted trophies at the Globe in the Marx Halle. With four awards each, “Corsage” and “Eismayer” are the evening’s winners, closely followed by “Vera” with three awards – including the one for “Best Feature Film”. The science fiction film “Rubicon” received two trophies, the drama “Märzengrund” and the documentary “Elfriede Jelinek – Letting the language off the leash” each received an Austro Oscar. “Greece or the Running Chicken” was awarded as “Most Popular Film”. This year, the ORF program is also dominated by the Austrian Film Awards.

Program for the Austrian Film Prize in ORF 1 and ORF 2
The special program “Home Cinema – News from Austrian Film” (Friday, June 16, 11.30 p.m., ORF 1) organized by ORF-TV-Kultur reports on the glamorous gala of the 13th Austrian Film Prize at the Globe in Vienna in the Marx Halle .
After “What we wanted”, “Great Freedom”, “Me, We” and “Gipsy Queen”, the audience can look forward to the Austrian Film Awards with “We’ll stay a little longer” (Sunday, June 18, 11:05 p.m., ORF 2) another film highlight co-financed by ORF. In it, the two Chechen refugee children Oskar and Lilli (Leopold Pallua and Rosa Zant) are separated from their mother and placed with different foster families. However, they secretly keep in touch and decide to find the mother and flee together. Other roles in Arash T. Riahi’s highly acclaimed feature film include Anna Fenderl, Christine Ostermayer, Alexandra Maria Nutz, Markus Zett, Simone Fuith and Rainer Wöss.
“Culture Today Special” and film marathon brand Sicheritz in ORF III
On June 16th, a “Culture Today Special” at 7.45 p.m. on ORF III will present the highlights of the award ceremony and give the evening’s winners a chance to speak. On the occasion of the Austrian Film Awards, ORF III is presenting a selection of productions by director Harald Sicherheitz on June 16th and 17th, founding member of the Academy of Austrian Films, who is also celebrating his 65th birthday on June 25th: The Sicherheititz Filmmarathon opens on Friday, June 16, his iconic directorial debut “Mother’s Day” (8:15 p.m.). At 9.50 p.m. there will be a new edition of the series “The Whole Interview” with the filmmaker. From 10:35 p.m., four episodes of the cult series “MA 2412” are on the program: “Horror” (10:35 p.m.), “Freud” (11:05 p.m.), “Body Cult” (11:30 p.m.) and “Outside Service” (11:55 p.m.). Then the homage “Qualtinger’s Vienna” (12:20 a.m.) and all ten episodes of the sitcom “Die Gipfelzipfler” (from 1:55 a.m. to 5:35 a.m.) can be seen. On Saturday, June 17th, the documentary “Filmgeschichte(n) – Muttertag” (8.55 a.m.) as well as the two comedies “Fink departs” (9.40 a.m.) and “MA 2412 – Die Staatsdiener” (12.55 p.m.) will round off the Sicherheititz -focus off.

As a streaming partner of the Austrian Film Academy, Flimmit will be there once more this year and will be showing the gala as a video-on-demand from Friday, June 16, on flimmit.at. There you will also find a selection of award-winning Austrian films in a specially curated collection for the Austrian Film Prize.

The ORF.at network and ORF TELETEXT dedicate themselves extensively to the Austrian Film Prize as part of their current cultural reporting.
On the ORF-TVthek, all programs of the TV focus around the Austrian Film Prize, for which the corresponding online license rights are available, will be available as a live stream and for seven days following the TV broadcast as video-on-demand.
