THE MINISTRY of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) provides remissions and reductions in special criminal periods for Muslim prisoners and children assisted by Muslims during Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijriah. Remission and a reduction in the special sentence period were enjoyed by 159,557 prisoners and assisted children.

Chairman of the Public Relations Working Group of the Directorate General of Corrections, Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Deddy Eduar Eka Saputra, said that of this figure, 158,343 of them were prisoners who received special remission. A total of 157,366 received special remission I, namely a partial reduction.

“And 977 people received special remission II or were immediately released,” said Deddy in a written statement received by Media Indonesia, Tuesday (9/4).

There were 1,214 assisted children who received special sentence reductions, 19 of whom were immediately declared free, while the rest received partial reductions in their sentences.

According to Deddy, the amount of special remission for convicts and a reduction in the special criminal period for inmates for Idul Fitri 1445 Hijriah this time varies, starting from 15 days, 1 month, 1 month 15 days, up to a maximum of 2 months. He said that the East Java Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights recorded the highest number of prisoners receiving special remission, namely 16,608 people.

Meanwhile, the second and third places are occupied by West Java with 16,336 prisoners and North Sumatra with 16,030 prisoners. Meanwhile, the largest number of assisted children who received a reduction in special criminal terms came from the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, North Sumatra (102 assisted children), West Java (98 people) and South Sumatra (86 people).
