$154 million.. The largest copper deal from Europe to the United States since December 2022

The US Census Bureau data indicated that this growth in copper imports is the highest on a monthly basis since December 2022, when its value reached $158 million.

In May, European copper supplies rose by 16%, and during the first five months of this year, copper purchases amounted to $630 million, which is 8% less than the volume of supplies for the same period last year 2023.

By the end of 2023, the United States will have purchased $1.5 billion worth of copper from EU countries.

It also imported aluminum from the European Union in May worth $209.4 million compared to $207.6 million in April. In just 5 months of this year, it decreased to $996.5 million compared to $1.02 billion a year earlier.

While the total value of imports for the entire year 2023 amounted to $2.4 billion.

It is noteworthy that the United States bought copper from Russia last May worth only $2.1 thousand, noting that even in the period before the imposition of sanctions there were no regular monthly supplies at all, as is the case with the European Union.

In 2024, Russia supplied the United States with copper only in May and April and in January, February, March, August and December of 2023 and in 2022 the supply was during June, October and December.

Over the course of 5 months of this year, Washington bought copper from Moscow worth $12.6 thousand, during the entire year 2023 for $52.5 thousand, in 2022 for $41.1 thousand, and in 2021 it reached the maximum since 2011 at $99.8 million.
