A 15-year-old boy was killed in a gunshot in a southern suburb of Stockholm on Saturday evening. Another 15-year-old and a man and woman between the ages of 45 and 65 suffered gunshot wounds and were taken to hospital. The incident happened near the center of the Stockholm suburb of Farsta, the police said. Murder investigations were launched. Two people were arrested following a chase.

The background to the crime initially remained unclear. For several years, Sweden has had a major problem with gang crime, which repeatedly manifests itself in shots and deliberate explosions. The southern edge of Stockholm is particularly badly affected. It was only on Friday that three people were injured by shots in two separate incidents in the capital region.

In 2022, the country had counted 391 gun incidents, 62 of which resulted in death, according to the police. From the beginning of the year to the end of May there have already been 144 gun incidents in Sweden, including 52 in the greater Stockholm area. 18 people were killed, 10 of them in the capital alone. These crimes often involve gaining influence on the drug market.
