After Apple register a significant drop in sales and share of the smartphone market, a survey and Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) showed the most purchased iPhone models in the first quarter of 2024 in the United States.
The period represents the second quarter of iPhone 15 sales since launch, and the data shows consumers’ choices between the new models and the previous ones. Among the best sellers, the iPhone 15 Pro Max led with 23%, while the iPhone 15 Pro grabbed 22%; together, they both responded for 45% of sales of all generations and versions in the first quarter of the year.
Os iPhones 14 e 15in turn, tied for 14% of sales in the first quarter of 2024 each, while the iPhone 15 Plus corresponded to just 9% of acquisitions. Finally, the iPhone 13 accounted for 9% of Apple’s smartphone purchases in the period.
The numbers of the most recent top-of-the-line models are very similar to those of the iPhones 14 Pro/14 Pro Max in the same period of 2023. There was, however, a noticeable decrease in the participation of the entry-level model from one year to the next: while the iPhone 14, in the first quarter of last year, corresponded to 19% of sales, the 15 represented 14% of purchases this year.
In total, the iPhone 15 line corresponded to 68% of models sold in the first quarter of 2024, with the Pro models consolidating themselves among the most preferred by users. In the same period last year, however, line 14 corresponded to 75%, demonstrating that there was a drop in the proportion of new devices among those purchased at the beginning of the year.
For CIRP, the changes indicate the continuation of a trend from previous quarters, of cheaper models losing space to older ones. Furthermore, the entry-level iPhone is no longer the main choice, a role taken over by the Pro models. Some reasons for this are the insignificant improvements of the latest devices and economic pressure, which has reduced sales of the newest generation.
