On July 24 and August 2, 15 million French people received a transfer from the tax authorities to reimburse an overpayment. A figure up sharply compared to 2022.
“INCOME TAX REMB”. This is the wording of the transfer that you may have received in your bank account in recent days. 15 million taxpayers have indeed received a refund following their 2022 tax return.
They correspond either to a deduction at source greater than the amount you owed, or to the restitution of a tax credit.
By way of comparison, the tax authorities had only made 13.7 million refunds last year at the same time.
Still a lot of money to recover
According The Dispatch, this net increase is the consequence of the revaluation of the tax scale by 5.4%, which for some households was faster than the change in income received.
In total, the State will return 13 billion euros, or around 850 euros on average per taxpayer concerned.
A sum much lower than the amount he still has to collect. According to the figures communicated by the tax authorities to the newspaper The echoes9.6 million French people were not sufficiently deducted at source.
As a result, they will have to repay an average sum of 2,259 euros. If the amount due is less than 300 euros, it will be deducted in one go, at the end of September.
If it is higher, withdrawals will be made during the last four months of 2023. Enough to allow the State to recover 21.7 billion euros.
