Apple created the 15-inch MacBook Air to combine the series’ lightweight design with a larger screen, ideal for those who multitask, but without having to spend exorbitant amounts for a MacBook Pro. This Thursday (21), the notebook The brand’s ultra-thin model underwent screen, camera and audio analysis by DxOMark.

Famous for testing cell phones and other products, the French platform attributed 141 points for the 15-inch MacBook Air with M2, making the notebook take second place in its ranking of best notebooks. The model is only below the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M2 Pro processor, which achieved 147 points.

It is worth remembering that the 15-inch MacBook Air with M2 is equipped with a 15.3-inch screen with IPS technology, a resolution of 2,880 x 1,864 pixels and a refresh rate of 60 Hz. The notebook also has six speakers and three microphones, plus a 1080p front camera for video calls.

According to reviewers, the 15-inch MacBook Air screen stands out for offering good support for HDR content, bringing a wide range of colors and appropriate brightness. A disadvantage, on the other hand, is that the panel may present less saturated colors and much lower contrast when displaying SDR video.

The image below compares the screen brightness performance of the 15-inch MacBook Air (blue bar) with the 13-inch MacBook Air (pink bar) and 16-inch Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Pro (orange bar) when displaying content in HDR and SDR. It is worth remembering that Apple laptops have LCD screens, while the rival has an AMOLED display.

Commenting on the notebook’s camera, it is highlighted that the webcam has an excellent level of detail in most tested conditions and good noise control in scenes with adequate lighting, however, skin tones may not be accurate on video callsand slightly low saturation can make the experience less satisfying.

Despite the drawbacks, the 15-inch MacBook Air ties the MacBook Pro with M2 Pro in terms of camera quality with 135 points. To compare, the 11th generation Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon, considered the best Windows notebook by DxOMark, achieved 100 points in the same test.

Finally, in the audio department, the 15-inch MacBook Air brings excellent dynamics with its six speakers. DxOMark praises the tonal balance and power of the lowest tones reproduced by the system. Furthermore, the microphones offer good performance, highlighting the realism and intelligibility of recorded voices.

The system, on the other hand, is not perfect. The evaluators point out that the notebook is not capable of recording stereo audio, despite having three different microphones. In some situations where there is simultaneous input and output of audio — such as video calls — there may be slight failures in the microphone paths.
