Salzburg’s “first” pilgrimage church was a haven of peace and a focal point for Mozart and Haydn. This still applies to many locals and visitors alike today. The concert on the patronage of the church is a much-loved fixed point in the concert calendar of the Salzburg Bach Society
This year, the Collegium Vocale under the direction of Michael Schneider will explore the roots of the Salzburg church style: Many of Michael Haydn’s church music works served as models for Mozart and as a source of inspiration. Mozart also studied works by Johann Ernst Eberlin and Georg Reutter, the teacher of the Haydn brothers. Mozart’s genius didn’t just fall out of the sky, because during his training in Salzburg he was able to draw on unlimited resources. Hear great works by the generation before Mozart, who had a significant influence on his development.
