In Burkina Faso, West Africa, 15 Catholics were killed during Sunday prayers. The attack occurred during a prayer session on Sunday morning in the village of Essakane in northern Burkina Faso, not far from the borders with Mali and Niger. Twelve believers were killed on site and three others later succumbed to their injuries, said the vicar general of the Dori diocese, Abbé Jean Pierre Sawadogo.
Two other people were injured. Islamist terrorist groups are active in the border triangle in the West African Sahel zone, including Al-Qaeda and the terrorist militia IS. Neither group initially commented on the attack.
