Vaccination once morest monkeypox can begin on August 16 at the CHL.
As provided for in the European joint acquisition contract, 1,400 doses of vaccine have just been delivered to Luxembourg. These were ordered through HERA, the European Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Agency. In total, over 160,000 doses have been purchased for Member States and are being delivered across the EU.
“For the first time, our European Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority has used EU funds to purchase these vaccines so that they reach Member States and citizens as quickly as possible”, recalls the European Commissioner of Health, Stella Kyriakides. “We also provide vital support to Member States with surveillance, data reporting, vaccination strategies and clear information for our citizens. »
Vaccination by appointment
The vaccination campaign can therefore begin on August 16 at the Luxembourg Hospital Center. It will take place only by appointment which can be agreed from Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays), from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., exclusively by calling (+352) 4411-3129.
Who can get vaccinated?
Epidemiological data collected by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) indicate that the virus is currently spreading almost exclusively among men who have sex with men, often in in relationships without a fixed partner or in relationships outside the couple. The latter are therefore a priority in order to protect them and limit the spread of the epidemic to other groups of people.
In the prevention of infection, are therefore concerned:
- men who have same-sex relationships with multiple partners,
- trans people with multiple partners,
- sex workers

What vaccination schedule?
Primary vaccination requires two doses 28 days apart, important to ensure high vaccine efficacy. A third dose may be administered in immunocompromised people.

Nearly 18,000 cases in Europe
As of 9 August 2022, in 41 countries and areas in the European region, a total of 17,897 cases of monkeypox have been reported to health authorities European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), This represents an increase of 1,971 cases since last week. The majority of cases (7,072 or 40%) were between 31 and 40 years old and were male (17,286 or 99%). Of the cases with known HIV status, 36% (8,156) were HIV-positive.
41 cases of monkeypox have been detected in Luxembourg, which represents an increase of 10 cases since last week. So far all the cases detected are men whose average age is 39 years. No case was hospitalized.
