The public prosecutor at the Ternate Corruption Court presented 14 witnesses to investigate the alleged intervention carried out by the inactive Governor of North Maluku (Antara)

A total of 14 witnesses were presented by the Public Prosecutor (JPU) at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) at the Corruption Court at the Ternate District Court, in order to investigate the methods of the inactive Governor of North Maluku (Malut) Abdul Gani Kasuba.

“(The witness explained) the governor’s intervention in the tender process,” said KPK spokesperson Tessa Mahardhika Sugiarto in a written statement, Thursday (11/7).

Tessa was reluctant to detail how Abdul Gani intervened in the tender process. However, she said, there was an official with the initials MSY who had also influenced the stages of finding the winner of the project.

“Regarding MSY, who is suspected of having attempted to influence the tender process at UKPB North Maluku related to physical work,” said Tessa.

In this trial, Abdul Gani Kasuba was charged with accepting bribes worth Rp5 billion and US$60 thousand along with receiving gratuities worth Rp99.8 billion and US$30 thousand. On the other hand, he was also involved in a money laundering case (TPPU) which is currently still under investigation at the KPK.

“The initial evidence of the alleged TPPU (money laundering crime) is the purchase and disguising the origin of ownership of assets of economic value in the name of another person with an initial value estimated at more than IDR 100 billion,” said KPK spokesperson for prosecution Ali Fikri at the KPK’s Red and White Building, South Jakarta, Wednesday, May 8, 2024.

The Head of the KPK News Division was reluctant to provide further details on the assets believed to have been disguised by Abdul. However, this case is certain to be held based on sufficient evidence.
