O DXOMARK recently created a new protocol evaluation of notebooks, having also published reviews of different models. Among those initially analyzed are the 14 inch macbook pro e MacBook Air de 13″which are occupying, respectively, the first and second positions of the rankings de laptops do site.

When testing computers, the site evaluates three aspects: camera, display e audio. DXOMARK, therefore, conducts its detailed tests by looking mainly at issues such as the quality of the audio and its performances in video calls, for example, assigning scores to each of the three items, as well as defining an average score for the devices.

The 14″ MacBook Pro, which occupies the first place in the ranking, received 147 points. The camera had a score of 135; the display, from 147; while audio was assigned 148. The video call (144) and music and video (149) results were the highest a laptop received so far, as were all other scores except display for video calls.

As positive points of the machine, DXOMARK highlighted the quality of the camera and microphone in video calls, the reproduction of the sound of voices and audio in general and the rendering of videos in HDRHigh dynamic rangeor high dynamic range.”>1, as well as good management of screen reflections. As cons, the unnatural color rendering, audio capture only in mono in some calls and problems with the duplex in the audio were listed.

Regarding the 13″ MacBook Air, in turn, we have a overall score of 137, which placed him in second place in the ranking. There were 121 points for the camera and 140 for the display and audio. Video calls were rated at 137 points, while music and video were rated at 140. Overall, component scores for music and video were higher than when calls were rated.

The MacBook Air’s pros and cons highlighted by DXOMARK were quite similar to those of its bigger, more powerful sibling. On the positive side, we have the camera and audio on video calls, good overall audio reproduction and good glare handling. As cons, there are two different ones: visible artifacts like hum in the speaker and insufficiently attenuated background noises.

The reviews, as is usual with the site, are lab-level, featuring a series of graphs and detailed data on various aspects of the laptops. Issues such as brightness distribution on the display, color gamut and speaker power are detailed in the analyses.

Although there aren’t that many computers reviewed so far, the MacBooks score is a considerable distance from the other machines. In third place, for example, following the MacBook Air, are currently tied for Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 11o Microsoft Surface Pro 9 and the Surface Pro 9 5Gcom 127 points.

It is possible, however, that Apple will occupy even more positions in the DXOMARK ranking in the near future, since the site still needs to test the 16″ MacBook Pro and 15″ Air, which bring significant improvements in some aspects when compared to their smaller brothers — as in loudspeakers, for example.

Look forward to testing new laptops to see how they compare to Macs!
