138.3 percent growth in foreign trade of Xicang region last year

Lhasa, January 20, 2024 (Xinhua) – The Customs Directorate in Lhasa City, capital of the Xicang Autonomous Region in southwestern China, said last Friday that the region recorded a growth in its foreign trade in goods by 138.3 percent year-on-year to reach approximately 10.98 billion yuan (regarding 1.54 billion US dollars) in 2023.

The directorate added that the region traded with 175 countries and regions last year, with its total imports and exports from Nepal, which is its largest partner, reaching approximately 2.77 billion yuan, an increase of 77.2 percent year on year.

Xicang’s exports of mechanical and electrical products rose 59.5 percent year on year in 2023, while its imports of high-tech products and bulk goods registered strong growth.
