A 13-year-old Belgian girl was seriously injured in a skiing accident in Warth, northwest Austria, on Wednesday, local newspaper ‘Kronen Zeitung’ reported Thursday, citing police.

The girl, whose identity has not been revealed, was sitting in a chairlift at the Warth am Arlberg ski area in the state of Voralberg on Wednesday morning when she lost a ski pole. In an attempt to retrieve the pole, she left the ski lift and attempted to climb the steep slope in her ski boots. She slipped on the partly frozen slope and rolled down the rocky slope for more than a hundred meters.

The young vacationer was injured in the cervical vertebrae. She was transported to Feldkirch hospital by rescue helicopter, the daily said.
