127.8 million tonnes of goods passed through the Suez Canal in August 2022

(Ecofin Agency) – Main shipping corridor linking the countries bordering the Mediterranean to those of the Red Sea, the Suez Canal is crucial in international trade. Making it possible to quickly reach the continental areas that surround it, it experiences an influx of ships that almost never falters.

Around 127.8 million tonnes of goods passed through the Suez Canal during the month of August 2022, according to official figures from the National Canal Authority (SCA). Last year, the data recorded for the month of August showed 110.2 million tonnes.

Also, traffic was brought by a total of 2,125 vessels, compared to 1,884 year-on-year. This level of activity made it possible to collect nearly 744.8 million USD during this eighth month, an increase of 32.4% in turnover for August 2021.

Due to the good performance that this platform has been performing for several months, the authority in charge of its management has set itself the objective of expecting 7 billion USD for the current fiscal year, whereas it had received 6 .3 billion USD in 2021. This new projection is, among other things, the basis of the adjustments made this year to the rights of passage of ships.
