Around 1,200 couples exchanged vows at a mass wedding on Valentine’s Day in Mexico. The city of Nezahualcóyotl set a new record for the event, which has been taking place since 2013, on Wednesday (local time). All generations were represented among the couples taking part in the central square of the city not far from Mexico City.
“Weddings are expensive,” said 28-year-old Rosalín Ruiz to the AFP news agency shortly following the wedding. Participation in the mass wedding is a “cheaper option” for her and her partner Ricardo Reyes, who is two years her senior.
The mass ceremony has been organized and financed by the city administration every year since 2013. The couples also benefit from some advantages such as the free issue of the marriage certificate.
